EuroChem Reconstructed Sulfur Acid Production by Phosphorite

On 26 February 2009 was announced, that the Industrial Group “Phosphorite” had completed the planned stoppage repair at production of sulfur acid. It was an intermediate link in the cycle of reconstruction of the sulfur acid production. Now it is 750 thousand tons and at the beginning of the reconstruction in 2003 it did not exceed 450 thousand tons. During the stoppage replacement of the large worn equipment was carried out. A new contact apparatus with two heat exchangers – built-in and remote, as well as a sulfuric furnace were connected to the system. The equipment was designed by specialists of the Canadian firm SNC-Lavalin using the latest design developments taking into account the possibility for expansion of capacity thereof.

The project cost within the framework of the investment program “Replacement of worn equipment at production of sulfuric acid” amounted to 463 million rubles.

The manufacturer of the equipment is the Tambov Plant “Komsomolets”. Assembly of the contact apparatus was carried out by the contracting organization CJSC “Kislorodmontazh”, the sulfuric furnace – representatives of the manufacturing plant. Supervision over start-up was carried out by specialists from the designer firm who also provided assistance in resolution of arising problems.

After adjustment of the technological mode of the system for production of sulfuric acid it is planned to continue the work associated with connection of a new 12MW energy unit to the system which will use heat of the process for generation of own electrical energy.

Replacement of boiling, absorption and blowing equipment is planned in the following stoppage cycles in 2009-2010.
