Kovdorsky GOK, an affiliate of OJSC EuroChem Mineral and Chemical Company, is investing in a major renovation project of its processing facilities for apatite and baddeleyite, with the aim of increasing production of both apatite and baddeleyite concentrate. Work is already underway on the project to renovate the gravity process used at Kovdor; this work will consist of installing modern, high efficiency facilities within the production area of the apatite-baddeleyite concentrating mill.

A new technology for separating and concentrating the hard and the fine-grained baddeleyite products has been developed as part of the project, a development that will considerably increase the rate of production.

Recently, two automated pumping hydrocyclone units, designed for de-sliming fine-grained materials (particle size of less than 0.1 mms) have been installed in the flotation feed preparation and baddeleyite contrite production areas at a cost of over RRB 16 million. Each is equipped with two Warman variable-speed drive normal pumps and two operating batteries consisting of eleven Setko hydraulic cyclones. The new automated line is characterized by highly efficient performance; materials can now easily be separated based on particle fineness.

The next stage will include the installation of four Holman gravity tables and spiral separators. The renovation of the gravity concentration process is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
